His shoulders, brought into the present.\u003cbr\u003eHoward Robard Hughes Jr. (1905–1976). American aviation engineer, businessman, film producer, and pilot. He moved into Hollywood at the end of the 1920s and made films including Hell's Angels and Scarface. In 1932 he founded Hughes Aircraft, acquired and expanded Trans World Airlines, and set one world air speed record after another, a legend by any measure.\u003cbr\u003eIn the 2004 biographical film The Aviator, Leonardo DiCaprio played Hughes, and in the scene where he directs Hell's Angels on set he wore a jacket reproducing the first flight jackets of the 1910s and 1920s. Made specially for the film by BELSTAFF's Italian high-end line, it was sold only for a very short period and never reached the market again; even surviving photographs are extremely scarce. With no original specification to refer to, it is a phantom of a jacket, born from a film.\u003cbr\u003eThe original was thin, soft sheepskin. For the REAL SIMONS version, to balance character with durability, we developed an amber horsehide with a vintage grain treatment specifically for this model. Horsehide shows a lustre and an ageing quite unlike sheepskin, gaining character the more it is worn.\u003cbr\u003eMany of the reproductions on the market are cut too slim, or lack the waist suppression, and fall short of the world the film created. We went through three rounds of fitting and revision to build the pattern, silhouette, and details properly.
