MA-1 MIL-J-8279 Flight Jacket — Sage Green

Taking on the essence of an American classic that outlasts its era.
The MA-1 — the celebrated flight jacket adopted in 1955 as the jet age opened. The early specification, produced from 1955 to 1957 under USAF standard MIL-J-8279, is known as a rare type distinct from the mass-produced models that followed.
For this model we rebuilt the pattern by working from the first-year U.S. pattern against an actual example. Stitch density is doubled and a high-quality sewing thread is used. DOT fasteners and a CONMAR zipper follow first-year specification, while high-gloss 66 nylon lifts the quality further. The ribbing is raw wool rib developed to special order after comparison against an original, and the details run right through to a fine lining and the high-density red-edged nylon tape for the oxygen mask clip — every one of them made without compromise.
Rather than reproducing the first-year fill as it was, we developed our own double-faced two-layer quilted construction: 350 g lamb's wool with 60 G 3M functional cotton. It is warmer than the original military jacket while being lighter and more comfortable to wear, with good moisture management. It resists humidity, is easy to care for, and will not powder or clump even after long use — a fill for a new era.
A jacket that keeps the face of history while being advanced by modern technique. An MA-1 for those who understand what a classic actually is.
