The finest cold-weather flight jacket of the post-war years, born out of Vietnam.
On 5 September 1973, the USAF and U.S. Naval Aviation simultaneously adopted the next-generation flight jacket MIL-J-83388A. It arrived as successor to the MA-1 and the WEP jacket, and was redesignated CWU-45/P in the second half of 1977. Across five generations (83388A/B/C/D/E), it stayed in service into the mid-1990s, the longest-loved cold-weather flight jacket of the post-war era.
This model was developed over five years, starting from the original specification of the period when the CWU-45/P appeared. Aiming to exceed Japanese Houston export standards across the board, we built the details in right down to the smallest points.
Rather than reproducing the original fill as it was, we use a quilted construction with 120 g/m² 3M functional cotton. It is far warmer than the original military jacket while being lighter and more comfortable, resists static, and manages moisture well. It stands up to humidity and is easy to care for, a fill for a new era.
A jacket that keeps the face of history while being advanced by modern technique. A CWU-45/P for those who understand what a classic actually is.
