J-24 Mouton-Collar Motorcycle Jacket, Revised — Tea-Core Padova Horsehide

A faithful reproduction of the J-24, introduced in 1953 and widely held to be the single most influential motorcycle jacket ever made.

The leather is AA-grade Padova tea-core horsehide, vegetable tanned and then chrome finished. The detachable mouton collar, the removable belt, the D-pocket, the game pocket at the back and the period hardware are all reproduced without omission. An American cut with broad shoulders, drawn in at cuff and waist, gives the jacket its substantial trapezoidal line.

This revised version is a redrawn pattern. Working from real customer measurements gathered by the US store, we added room at the chest and shoulders and extended the size range to 4XL and 5XL. The size chart below shows the revised figures and replaces the earlier one. If you already own a J-24, the size that fitted you before may no longer be the right one — please check against your own measurements.

[On the material: Padova horse leather]
Padova is REAL SIMONS' own tea-core horse leather. Polish hides are selected to an AA-grade standard and finished black at the surface with a brown core left beneath. As the surface scuffs with wear, that brown shows through and the leather grows a warmer character.
At the retanning stage we add more fat liquor than usual together with a milk-protein treatment, drawing out a supple hand and an even grain.

• Take care to keep the leather away from rain and water. If it does get wet, blot the moisture off promptly with a dry cloth and let it dry naturally in a well-ventilated, shaded place.
• Store on a hanger that matches the shoulder width so the garment keeps its shape.
• Wipe dirt away gently with a dry, soft cloth, and condition with a leather cream as needed.
• Store away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity.

• Because this is natural leather, creases, veining, scars, and uneven colour may be visible. These are the character of a natural material, not defects.
• Colour may fade, transfer, or change with age through wear.
