"Mojave" Racing Jacket — Single Riders, Tea-Core Horsehide

The name comes from the Mojave Desert in California. A rider crossing open country folds down over the tank to cut wind resistance while the rear wheel throws up a long tail of dust into the sky. That road culture, and its stubbornness, is what produced the racing jacket.

This model is built on a period racing jacket from our founder's own collection, with the design thinking of the 1950s café racer laid over it and the pattern substantially reworked. The body is shorter, the shoulders and chest wider. The result is an outline that suits how people are built today, rather than the long, narrow look period pieces often have.

The front stays clean, with a hidden pocket added a little further back. The wool-blend lining carries a large patch pocket on each side, big enough for a phone. The main zip is a double-slider, so it opens from the hem as well — the hem will not bunch while you ride.

Black at the surface with a brown core left beneath — a tea-core finish. The more the surface is worn and scuffed, the more the brown shows through and the warmer the character becomes.

• Take care to keep the leather away from rain and water. If it does get wet, blot the moisture off promptly with a dry cloth and let it dry naturally in a well-ventilated, shaded place.
• Store on a hanger that matches the shoulder width so the garment keeps its shape.
• Wipe dirt away gently with a dry, soft cloth, and condition with a leather cream as needed.
• Store away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity.
