MALLORY British Riders Jacket IMOLA — Oil-Waxed Calfskin

Named after Mallory Park, the British circuit — an attempt to carry the air of 1960s–70s road racing over as it was.

The base is the slim British riding pattern. From there the shoulders were widened and the body shortened, with diamond quilting across the shoulders and sleeves to make that width read even stronger. The sleeves, though, were left long: keeping the wrist covered when you reach for the bars is what a motorcycle jacket is for. A short, wide body with long arms also lifts the proportions.

The leather is a French calfskin tanned in two stages: fully vegetable-tanned first, then drum-dyed with a heavy oil wax, with no coating on top — a pure aniline finish. At 1.2 mm it is dense and has a backbone to it, so the pattern holds its shape. The pores are fine, and it does not break into the loose, wide creases horsehide does. With wear the colour deepens unevenly until it reads as two tones.

The lining is a red quilted padding, and the inside of the collar is corduroy, so it sits softly against the neck. IDEAL zippers at the asymmetric front, the pockets and the cuffs; dot buttons on the collar and the front flap; belt adjusters at the sleeves. Two vertical zip pockets outside, one zip pocket inside.

・Keep it out of the rain. If it does get wet, blot the water off with a dry cloth and let it dry naturally in the shade.
・Store it on a hanger that matches the shoulder width.
・Wipe marks with a dry soft cloth and feed the leather with a leather cream as needed.
・Keep it out of direct sunlight, heat and damp.

・Creases, vein marks, scars and unevenness of colour are part of a natural hide, not faults.
・Colour may transfer or fade, and the leather will change with wear.
